This past week, Glenn and Jeanie Slack said goodbye to Bryan, OH as their move to Akron was completed. Glenn has been working in Akron for some time, but because they had a house to sell in Bryan, Jeanie had continued to work in Bryan through the week. Their weekends involved a lot of travel over past months.
We all know how quickly the years pass! I'm not sure of the exact timeframe, but somewhere in the late 90's, Glenn and Jeanie and their two children, Andrew and Rachel moved to Bryan. They began attending New Hope. For many years, Deb and I would invite families who had moved into our area to our home after Christmas Eve services. We would especially reach out to those who had moved into our community and did not have family close by.
Glenn and Jeanie and their family were a part of one of those Christmas Eves. It really is hard to believe that was a dozen or so years ago! Glenn and I probably played 200 softball games together in the years from then until now. Jeanie worked in the school system with my wife Deb. Andrew and Rachel grew up in our church and graduated from Bryan High School. We valued the Slack family greatly!
This past week I spent some time with Glenn and Jeanie at Seasons Bistro in Bryan and we said our goodbyes. Hopefully our paths will cross again in this life. If not, they will in the next. We'll miss them like we do so many others who have moved away from our area and church. We're grateful for the time we shared, but such is the reality of this life. Farewell Slack family, and thanks for the privilege of sharing these past years with you.
